Avoid burnout...plan rest time

Updated: Dec 2, 2021

How full is your tank?

It's Friday! What are your weekend plans? Are you ready for a fun weekend with friends and family? Maybe a long walk, or some exercise? A bit of hobby time? Or are you exhausted, desperate to get to 5pm (or 6) when you can log off, open the wine and slump for the evening? Are you finding that you are using your weekends simply to recuperate from the week? If so, you are not alone. Several of my clients this month have talked about that feeling of being so tired, so exhausted that to do anything at all is a struggle. Work is all consuming for them at the moment. Perhaps it is for you? When I ignored all the signs of burnout, my body reacted for me. It gave me such a huge migraine that it knocked me over so hard that I couldn't get out of bed for days. I was signed off for 5 weeks and it took me 3 months on a phased return to get back to work. I left it too late to top up my tank, and I had to do it the hard way. Don't let your tank run so dry that your body knocks you over. Take some time this weekend to look at your routines. What is not working for you? Where do you need some space? What can you delegate? How can you ask for help? What can you do for yourself? What would top up your tank? You can use my time planner to help plan a better looking day, week and month and see if you can slowly top up your tank rather than run on fumes.
